NOTE ON "SMS"
"Short Message Service" includes wireless text messages, chat or e-mails. Please remember that they must be shorter than about 160 characters*. You may want to consult a SMS dictionary for the most common abbreviations.

The cell phone has both voice and text options :

1) Dial Wireless Telephone.

There should be voice mail to leave messages. If you get no answer or the matter is urgent, try calling the home phone, or send a SMS/e-mail.

2) Send Text Messages (SMS).

Dial the number above to exchange text messages. You will have to either use a digital device enabled for two-way text messaging or you can go to www.rogers.com {http://www.rogers.com/english/wireless/sendpcs.html}. Messages can be up to 160 characters* long. The Rogers site does not allow you to receive a reply.

You can chat from a wireless phone. Please keep the chat short though, because we are not on an unlimited chat plan.

3) Send E-Mail.

The address is wireless@vonledebur.org. Messages can be up to 150 characters long*. The message will be delivered later if nobody is available. Please note that e-mail only works if you send it as text, not html. The cell phone cannot reply to you by regular e-mail, you must have a number for SMS messages.

4) Set up Instant Messenger or ICQ Chat.

This has not been tested and depends on the models of the phones used. See SMS above. To contact the cell directly you have to be in advanced mode. Click on "Services" and "SMS Message". E-mail the person for further details. Like regular e-mail, a reply back to an ICQ number is not possible using this cell phone.

N.B.
* The maximum length of SMS varies, and in some applications it is only 123 characters. As they say, KISS ["keep it simple, stupid"], or maybe that should be "keep it short ... ".
** E-Mail and text messaging is being tested. We are still trying out the best package of services. Any "wireless" e-mail messages sent to us will be forwarded to our regular e-mail address if necessary. Try "wireless@vonledebur.org" and, if you do not get a reply, "mobile@vonledebur.org". The cell phone can only reply to text messages if the sender has a telephone number (not ICQ or regular e-mail).
